The New Jersey Jewish News
published an article, in their October 24, 2002 issue, entitled “In
high-tech age, STAR grants help synagogues go online.” The article began:
“Congregation Emanu-El of
San Francisco, Anshe Emet Synagogue in Chicago, and Young Israel of
Lawrenceville NJ, all are ahead of the curve. They boast some of the best
synagogue Web sites in America, according to a new study.” The article goes
on to say that a technology study was commissioned by an organization
called “STAR”, which stands for “Synagogue Transformation and Renewal”. STAR
was formed in 1999 by Edgar Bronfman and others who donated 18 million
dollars in hopes of rebuilding synagogue life. The technology study
reviewed 350 Web sites of shuls that are members of the United Synagogue of
Conservative Judaism, 144 Web sites of shuls that are members of the
Orthodox Union, and 44 Web sites of shuls that are members of the Young
Israel, and others. We were lucky enough to be selected as one of the top
three!!
